The handmade sector is on a precipice: global consumer demand is high and artisan skills abound, particularly in marginalized economies across Africa and globally. However, the sector lack key dynamics such as investment, technology and standardization across the the value chain to scale effectively. We believe transformative change in this sector is only possible through strong partnerships, a shared vision, a heart-centred approach and a will to drive change. Handmade Futures Initiative (HFI) embodies this.

The goal of HFI is to convene a holistic and diverse group of stakeholders to proactively identify, prioritize and address the systemic issues that limit the future growth and scalability of the handmade sector, grounded by an inclusive, heart-centred approach. We are looking for multiple perspectives and input from stakeholders across the value chain to create the systemic change needed to enable these enterprises to flourish.

HEART-CENTRED APPROACH
The heart-centred approach will be founded upon an alliance of stakeholders united around a collective new vision: re-evaluating the value chain to achieve equity, prosperity and sustainable growth for all.

OBJECTIVE
To proactively address the systemic issues that challenge the growth and Scalability of women-led social enterprises in the handmade sector in Africa and the Middle East through a holistic multi-stakeholder and heart-entered approach across the value chain.

OUTCOMES
Concrete solutions to address the challenges and transform the sector with equity, sustainability and prosperity for all at the core of the change.
